A47 Campaign - Our Proposal ....
Proposed plan for Safer Access to the A47 from our villages.....

I have been told that traffic lights or a roundabout at the Mattishall Road Junction to the A47, would not be possible as it is on a bend.

Getting the go ahead for a Duel Carriage way would be utopia but the way I understand it, even if it is agreed now it will take many years to come to fruition.

A speed restriction on the A47 would slow the traffic but it would then be an endless stream and would make it even more difficult to get out of the junction.

So we need a plan ‘B’……………. NEXT TIME IT COULD BE ONE OF OUR FAMILY.

The Proposal..........

Install a New Roundabout at the Honingham Crossroads between the junctions of Berry’s Lane and Wood Lane on the A47. (Another black spot that needs URGENT ATTENTION).

Traffic heading from Mattishall and East Tuddenham on the Mattishall Road heading towards Easton would be directed left at the crossroads of Berry’s Lane and Barnham Broom Road at the Old Honingham School Site....... For easier integration to the A47 via the proposed New Roundabout.

At the Mattishall Road Junction to the A47 heading towards Easton change the priority to ‘Left Turn Only’ (for those who miss the new directions) it would then turn them back to the Proposed New Roundabout. This will finally put a stop to the horrendous and hideous problem of trying to run the gauntlet.

There could even be an island created on the A47 at this point to stop traffic Turning Right. This change of priority would not effect Mattishall, Honingham and East Tuddenham traffic from filtering off the A47 to the Mattishall Road.

I must stress that this is a PROPOSAL ONLY that I have put forward as a practical and workable solution .......

This proposal was put forward by the Mattishall Parish Council 2000-1 (of which I was then a member), but Highwayys ignored our suggestions.
