Campaign Agenda:-
1/. The A47 needs to be Dualled
in its entirety URGENTY.
-
This is the main artery from
the North and Midlands to the East Coast for commerce
and commuters.
-
The volume of traffic at peak
hours slow traffic to a crawl between the dualled
sections at North Tuddenham & Easton, as evidenced
by the traffic flow forecast page on the ‘Highways
Agency website¹’
-
Even the slightest RTA (road traffic
accident) or breakdown on the single carriage
sections can close the entire road.
-
The cost of Emergency Services
attending RTA’s is escalating and given
time will overtake the cost of improving the road.
This is false economy and a waste of tax payer’s
money. (It is estimated in the last 3 years to
be in access of £3.8M).
2/. Urgent Safety Requirements
as an interim measure to dualling in the Honingham
Area.
URGENT SAFETY PROPOSAL...... Under Section
62 Highways Act 1980
-
Roundabout
on the large staggered crossroads of Wood
Lane and Berry’s Lane Honingham
allowing SAFER right turns (north to west &
south to east) and crossing of the A47 at all
times from our villages. The junction is large
enough to take a roundabout the same size as the
one at the western end of the Easton By-pass,
and has a long visibility from both east &
west on the A47.
-
Wood Lane up-graded to take two-way
heavy goods vehicles that currently have to use
roads of nearby villages to go to and from industrial
sites.
-
No Right turn onto the A47 to
Easton from the Mattishall Road...... providing
proposed roundabout is constructed.
Concerns regarding Speed Restrictions and Camera’s
-
As can be seen from the Highways
Agency website, the traffic is already slowed
below 30mph at peak times. Speed restrictions
are unnecessary as pushing two lanes into one
already slows the traffic. The lack of gaps in
the traffic flow could lead to frustration and
the possibility that commuters will take risks
to get out of the junctions. Cameras will be a
distraction.
Concerns with Traffic Lights
1/ “The flow for 8 November
is forecast to be less that 30 mph eastbound between
0800-1000 and again between 1000 and 1100. Between
1300-1400 and 1500-1600 the speed shown is 30-50 on
both carriageways, after which it is shown at over
50 mph westbound. Turning right onto the road at that
time will be extremely hazardous. Only between 2100-0700
is the speed consistently > 50mph”.
